tinyurl.com — Enter Dr. Atkins and the low-carb diet craze currently sweeping the nation. Whereas low-fat diets like Pritikin and Ornish warned followers against eating high-fat foods like steak and eggs, Atkins followers avoided the carbohydrates that are the mainstay of a low-fat lifestyle. Not surprisingly, low-carb diets have come under attack by everyone from low-fat diet proponents to scientists and the media. In “Diet Wars,” Talbot speaks with science journalist Gary Taubes, who wrote a controversial article for The New York Times Magazine that questioned whether the food pyramid was wrong and limiting carbohydrates was the way to go. “I got crucified in a variety of publications,” Taubes tells FRONTLINE. “A Washington Post reporter went after me, the Center for Science in the Public Interest went after me because suddenly I turned around and said, ‘Maybe low-fat diets don’t work and maybe low-carbohydrate diets are the answer.’” Taubes admits to being surprised by the ferocity with which his article was attacked. “People are more polarized on this than they are in politics,” he says. “I’m stunned.” What most nutritionists and industry experts do agree on is the fact that America is facing an obesity problem of epidemic proportions. “This is the public health issue of our generation,” says Dr. James Hill, director of the University of Colorado’s Center for Human Nutrition. “[When] you see 65 percent of Americans are overweight or obese, what amazes me is that

Fast and east low-carb Manicotti: the motion picture!

Jimmy Moore from www.livinlavidalowcarb.com interviews Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, a medical doctor from Sweden who is treating patients with obesity, heart disease, and diabetes with a low-carb, high-fat diet (LCHF). He runs the #1 low-carb blog in the world at www.kostdoktorn.se and joined a group of American low-carbers on The 3rd Annual Low-Carb Cruise to the Bahamas in March 2010. Dr. Eenfeldt talks about how he stumbled upon low-carb diets after reading the work of New York Times science writer Gary Taubes and then finding a physician in his home country of Sweden named Dr. Annika Dahlqvist who uses low-carb nutrition to help her patients. Today he is an avid supporter of the science behind carbohydrate-restriction and believes the “low-fat fad” is coming to an end. He shares encouraging words about the “paradigm shift” happening regarding fat and especially saturated fat and that people will soon realize it is the carbs they need to be most concerned about. LLVLC On YouTube: Perfect Low-Carb Food–EGGS! (Episode 8)

Popular LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blogger Jimmy Moore and his talented wife Christine discuss the benefits of the incredible edible egg in this episode. Jimmy has his usual fun playing with his food (get a load of what he does with the eggs at the beginning of the show) and then gets serious to tell people why eating eggs is a healthy part of a low-carb diet because of the nutrients that they contain. Although eggs have received a bad rap because of their cholesterol content, the fact is dietary cholesterol is not the culprit in raising cholesterol in the body. Instead, it’s the excessive carbs which force the liver to pump out the cholesterol which can be harmful to your body. Yet another misconception blown to smithereens by Jimmy and Christine!
